HOPPING ON WITH KANGAROO JACK’S MERIENDA BUFFET!

I, along with my co-admins have been a fan of this Kangaroo Jack’s Merienda Buffet since the very first time we’ve dined there. We can’t even count how many times we’ve dine on the restaurant. Given this initial review of mine, it’s pretty obvious that we really enjoyed every dining experience we had at Kangaroo Jack! Now, I’ll share to you guys our latest experience at Kangaroo Jack and I’ll tell you why we kept on going back to this lovely restaurant!

2

It was Thursday (March 19, 2015) when I asked Admin Lavern if he wants to eat with me (again) at Kangaroo Jack at SM North EDSA (I know he won’t refuse, given the fact that he really loves Kangaroo Jack’s Merienda Buffet to death) and there without anything else he said yes. So we see each other quite a bit late (4:00 PM) and Kangaroo Jack’s Meienda Buffet is only up to 5:30 PM. As a consequence, most of the food on the buffet table are already half empty and the staff would not refill it anymore.

3

Kangaroo Jack’s Merienda Buffet has two parts: one that contains all the main courses;

5

… and one that contains all the appetizers and desserts (What a coincidence, the lady with the stripe shirt was captured on both photos! Haha!).

6

So now, here’s what the main course section contains. First, we have Pesto, Tono Rosso, and Tuna Olio Pasta. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to taste any of these. Besides, I’m not a fan of Pesto Pasta. Haha! Sorry for the messy presentations of the food. Remember we got to the place 1 hour before the closing of the Merienda Buffet. Also, most of the presentations of the food look messy. So please, understand. Lol!

7

Mac & Cheese, Sliced Pork with Liver Sauce, and Pork Scallopinne. I liked the Sliced Pork with Liver Sauce, it was good and tasty!

8

Kare-Kare, Chicken Ala King, Chicken Mexicana, fried Chicken, and Fish Fingers. The Chicken Ala King and Chicken Mexicana tastes great! The Fried Chicken got bigger compared to last time we dine there, probably because of the price raise they had; from Php 220.00 to Php 275.00. I really love their Fried Chicken and Fish Fingers!

9

Green Rice, Jave Rice, and Plain Rice. All was great, but I still prefer the Plain Rice over the Green and Java Rice because I find those two a bit greasy.

12

Banana Con Yelo. This one’s good too! I suggest that you put just a small amount of ice in order to keep the dessert sweet even after a few minutes.

13

Maja Con Blanca, Coffee Jelly, Banana Fritters, and Churros. I was only able to taste the Maja Con Blanca and the Coffee Jelly. Both Tastes great! I’m sorry for the empty plates and messy appearance.

14

Pizzas and Tacos. I am a big fan of their Pizza! I don’t mind if it’s thin as paper, I still love it, because I really like Pizzas with so many cheese.

15

Nachos and Salad Bar. I wasn’t able to try any of these, although I’m a big fan of Nachos.

16

Cream of Mushroom Soup and Garlic Bread. I was not able to get some of these, but Admin Lavern said that the Cream of Mushroom Soup tastes like it has Bagoong (Fish Paste) as an ingredient. Haha! I tasted it and I agree with him. I don’t know what happened because their Cream of Mushroom tastes like an ordinary one verytime we dine there. Maybe it just happened that the way they cooked the soup is different on that day.

17

The Drinks Station. The Php 275.00 you pay is already inclusive of drinks (Red Iced Tea). I really like the taste of their Red Iced Tea! It’s refreshing!

19

I and admin Lavern really had a good time dining at Kangaroo Jack! Our Php 275.00 is really worth it! There are so many food choices on their buffet table and all really tastes great! We definitely will never get tired of dining at Kangaroo Jack! I suggest that if you want to dine at Kangaroo Jack’s Merienda Buffet, you try to go at least earlier than 3:30 for you to be able to enjoy your experience at the restaurant. Kangaroo Jack’s Merienda Buffet is available every Monday – Saturday from 11:00 AM to 5:30 PM.

To top it all, I give Kangaroo jack’s Merienda buffet a score of 9/10! It totally worth your money!

LET’S ALL ‘SNACK TO SAWA’ AT BARRIO FIESTA’S MERIENDA BUFFET!

Barrio Fiesta is known for its mouthwatering Filipino dishes. I have experienced dining there once, and I have to admit that their dishes are definitely extremely delicious. That is why no wonder that Barrio Fiesta is one of the most well-known and established Filipino restaurant in the country. Aside from offering delectable Filipino dishes, Barrio Fiesta is also known for its ‘Snack to Sawa’ a.k.a their Merienda Buffet, wherein they also offer famous Pinoy meriendas.

2

Last Monday (March 16, 2015), I asked Admin Lavern to eat with me at Barrio Fiesta SM North EDSA. So we got to the place quite a bit late (3:00 PM). And as a consequence, some of the plates there are half empty, but lucky us it is not too late at that time that’s why the plates are still being refilled with food by the crews. We’re still able to enjoy the food at Barrio Fiesta when we dine. Haha!  I don’t want to make this story long, so without further ado, here’s our experience at Barrio Fiesta.

3

Just after you step on the main door of Barrio Fiesta you’ll see the long buffet table at your left. It contains all of the food available in their merienda buffet.

4

On the first part of the table there you have the different sauces (Soy Sauces, Vinegar Sauce and Sweet and Sour Sauce), Tokwa’t Baboy, Vegetable Balls, Puto, Okoy, Palabok, and Kakanin. I was able to taste all except for the Palabok because I find it unappetizing. As per the taste of those I was able to eat, it’s all good! I really liked the Tokwa’t Baboy and the Vegetable Balls the most! It’s very tasteful!

5

The second part of the table contains Lugaw, Dinuguan, and Lomi (sorry for the messy presentation). Their Dinuguan was very great, so as their Lomi (which I loved the most!). I can’t believe that with only Php 150.00 we’re able to taste such delicious Filipino merienda! That’s totally worth the money!

17

On the last part of the table are the desserts (except for the Ginilng na Baboy): Sandwich, Sweetened Banana Cuts, Camote Cue, Ginataang Halo-Halo, Biko, Kutsinta, and Maja Blanca. I was only able to taste the Maja Blanca, and it taste good! How I wish I was able to taste all of those food! Hmmm… maybe next time!

21

So here’s our plate! It might look so few but I we really enjoyed it! Besides, we had our 2nd plate, which we’re not able to take a picture of because we’re so hungry at that time. Lol! The fodd at Barrio Fiesta really satisfied us. Actually, it even surpass our expectations because at first, we thought that the food there are just so-so given the fact that the buffet is only for Php 150.00, but then we’re wrong! Lucky us!

34

To sum it up, our experienced at Barrio Fiesta was the most satisfying experienced we ever had! With only Php 150.00 you’ll be able to taste pure Filipino merienda at Barrio Fiesta! It’s totally worth your money! And I promise to come back there when I have my free time. I want to taste all of the food I wasn’t able to taste during my first visit. I would give Barrio Fiesta’s Merienda Buffet a score of 7.5/10! It is because they were able to surpass my expectations and the food was very delicious with a very affordable price of Php 150.00!

EXPERIENCE FILIPINO FOOD FIESTA AT KAMAY KAINAN!

2

Eating is the medicine for our boredom. Since we don’t have anything to do, last Thursday, I, my sisters and my brother-in-law decided to go out to unwind due to stressful days we’ve been this past weeks. We went to Trinoma to look for a buffet restaurant, and there we find Kamay Kainan. With any hesitation we go inside and try to critic their service. Unfortunately we feel so disappointed about their foods. It doesn’t taste good for us. It is like an ordinary food that we’ve been eating at home. My eldest sister said that only the pinakbet tastes good among the dishes she tried to eat. I really feel bad that we eat there. I regret entering the restaurant. The Php 374 per head is not worth it.

3

This is how their dishes are arranged. It is scattered into places. It is not synchronized to each other. It is supposed to be all the wet dishes are in one place, so with the dry one, and also the appetizers. But what they did was they will just put their dishes where ever they want it to be. They do not have the proper arrangement of dishes.

4

This is their “pina-paitan” in our term. As you can see, the pan looks messy. They didn’t even wipe the excess mess in the round corner of the pan. I am a very oozy customer that’s why I don’t like this kind of service. Therefore, customers like me would definitely hate it.

5

This is the other dishes that they are serving. Too bad that they did not put the names of their dishes for the customer to recognize the food.

6

Here’s the shrimp, menudo, ginisang toge and the one with the shell, I don’t know what it is. The menudo tastes good because it is one of my favorite foods.

7

They have here the sinigang na blue marlin, kare-kare that doesn’t suffice the cravings of my sister and the two other dishes at the back that I can’t recognize what it is.

8

Here’s the dinuguan, caldareta and their adobo. As I tried their caldareta I told my sister that our mom is better in cooking caldareta than they are. I feel sorry for my sisters that it is our first time to eat in a buffet restaurant with our soon to be brother-in-law and yet he also feel disappointed that he can’t even explain what he eat when I ask him if how’s the taste of the food.

9

And there’s the dinugaan, together with red egg, fried tilapia, fried shrimp and the ginisang toge. See their food is just place into whatever places they want it to place.

10

Here are their other dishes that I can’t explain anymore how it taste because I did not bother to taste it anymore.

11

Here is their kakanin that is very ordinary for us who really loves to eat. Their Japanese cake is just like only preheated.

EXPERIENCE WORLD CLASS BUFFET AT DAD’S WORLD BUFFET RESTAURANT!

Last July 22, 2014 me and my girlfriends are thinking where to celebrate Alyssa’s 18th birthday. Then we search through the internet and look for the best restaurant that will suffice our cravings. There we found Dad’s World Buffet Restaurant. And as I search about Dad’s I found out that Dad’s is the one who first introduced the eat-all-you-can. They are pioneer in the food industry since they’ve been in 20 years of excellency in business.  Therefore, we are tempted to try their service. We decided to dine in at Dad’s World Buffet Restaurant and it really met our satisfaction. Everything that we needed was served more than what we’ve expected. There’s so much variety of food to choose from.

Dad’s Roast Turkey is the best roast turkey I’ve ever tasted. The meat is juicy and filled with flavor and it is easy to slice. This recipe was delicious. The turkey was moist and firm. Roast turkey somehow tastes the same as roasted chicken. But, turkey’s meat is a more little tender and juicy. I like it when it’s stuffed inside. The flavor of the stuffed ingredients brings twist to roasted turkey.

I also loved their crispy tempura. It is a Japanese classic dish that is loved by all – crunchy, salty and tasteful shrimps that when dipped in its sauce brings delicious gingerly flavor.

Chinese dumpling that is made out of shrimp, covered in a dumpling wrapper. Usually it is steamed. Some like it fried. But I love it steamed. It tastes like the typical siomai, but the only difference is that it is made out of shrimp.

When it’s your birthday, crew singers will surprisingly come to you and bring you a slice of cake while they sing ‘happy birthday’. By this ‘pakulo’ customers will feel delighted, most especially the celebrant. Other customers, of course, will get jealous of how fun these people make their customer’s day a little more special just by singing to them. These gestures of the singers will be passed on to others and customers will choose this restaurant to experience the ‘fun’ way of celebrating their day.

7

Here’s a picture us during Alyssa’s 18th birthday that was celebrated at Dad’s world buffet Restaurant. It shows through our eyes and smile how we enjoyed the food and services that we’ve encountered at the said restaurant. No regrets we take nothing but happiness.

WEEKEND FOOD TRIP AT ATWAMANUKAN GRILL!

Since we are always visiting some buffet restaurants, we went again in one of the places in Quezon Ave., in Atwamanukan Grill restaurant. It’s a buffet restaurant for only P145.00 per head. Isn’t it affordable? For me, it’s a big YES! Seriously at P145.00, I can eat at the buffet restaurant like this. This is where you can have a truly cheap buffet lunch or dinner. For the price paid, there’s no doubt that you get excellent value for your money. However, don’t expect gourmet dishes or five-star ambiance or top-quality service. There’s no aircondition in the place but they have industrial electric fans. You go here for one reason alone: to have a full, hearty meal. With this in mind, you won’t go away disappointed.

Atwamanukan is an all Filipino dish buffet. They serve it in deep porcelain cookwares and palayoks for the soups. They serve the following dishes like sinigang na spareribs, tinola, papaitan, garlic rice, veggie rice, plain rice, grilled liempo, chicken barbeque, chicken inasal, chicken curry, chicken afritada, fried chicken, spicy chicken wings, bopis, pata, humba, lechon kawali, sisig, kare-kare, sweet and sour tilapia, fish sinigang, tahong soup, pansit canton, ginisang sayote, beef with ampalaya. Plus they serve different kinds of desserts: fresh pineapple cuts, watermelon, maha, ube, biko, sweetened banana and kamote, sapin-sapin and my favorite mangga with bagoong.

They also offer bottomless drinks (which I’m a fan off). If you get the bottomless ice tea, you don’t have to call the waiters and you wouLdn’t even notice you’ve drinking a lot of it because they keep on refilling it. One complain though, you can use all the plates you want but only one fork and spoon – that might be done also to other buffet restaurants. The staff are attentive, polite but I guess they’re not really that experienced yet.

Over all, the place is an open air, with clean dine-in and buffet area.  It has a big clean restroom with handwash soap and toilet tissue.  Take note, the dining area is available up to 9pm only.  If you feel the night still young, you may go to the nearby comedy bar, Punchline. So if you’re looking for a cheap buffet restaurant, go to Atwamanukan Grill Restaurant. Till’ next time.

KOWLOON HOUSE: AUTHENTIC AT ITS FINEST!

Wanna try some Authentic Cantonese Cuisine? With Excellent Service, Tradition of Good Taste and Affordable Price? Then let’s go to Kowloon House West Avenue branch. Kowloon House is known for their best dimsum and their super yummy Jumbo Pao (Siopao). There are many Kowloon House branches all over the metro but I choose the West Avenue branch because it’s so near in my house. Their West Avenue branch is actually divided into 3 segments, all with different entrance passages: First: The take-out counter (with drive-thru) where you can buy all variants of siopao, on the go. Attached to it is a casual non-air-conditioned dining area, known for its affordable beers. Second: The function hall, where private functions are usually held, set-menu is usually served. Third: Airconditioned Dining Room, where we dined.

Kowloon House West Avenue branch offers lunch and dinner buffets for only Php 295 including my super favourite bottomless iced tea (I’m a big fan of unlimited drinks). Kowloon House offer Seaweeds, Century Eggs (my least favorite), Sharksfin (I can eat 25 sharksfin in one meal), Pork Siomai (which have a unique taste) and their signature Kowloon Siopao.

Seaweeds, Century Eggs, Sharksfin, Pork Siomai and Kowloon Siopao.

It’s time for their Authentic Cantonese dishes.

Yangchow and Plain Rice

Brocolli and Taiwan Pechay

Chinese Style Fried Chicken and Lumpiang Shanghai

Kowloon House Stir Fried Noodles/ Lohon Vegetables

Steamed Fish Fillet with Bean Curd and Soy Sauce / Fragrant Chicken

Beef Tenderloin with Young Corn / Sweet and Sour Pork

Bacon Shrimp Roll / Pork Tausi Spareribs

The ambiance of the place is so calm. You don’t see people running around panicky and fighting for food. There are some people like that but majority of the people is calm getting their food since the waiters refill it from time to time. The place is not bad as well. The staff are friendly too and they keep your glass half full all the time. The foods?! Hmmm.. Some are so-so but some are tasty not bad for its price. For budget people wise this is one place you should put on your list. We are so going back to Kowloon House soon. Till next time.

NON-STOP GRILLING AT YAKIMIX!

These past few days I feel so tired and stressed because of some school works. I can’t find time to go to mall or to unwind. I’ve been craving for Maki for the past few days and I asked my mom if it’s okay with her to eat in Yakimix. At first she rejected it, but after 1 week she said yes.

Last Sunday (March 15, 2015), my Mom and I went to Yakimix Trinoma to have lunch. We all know that Yakimix is quite an expensive buffet restaurant but I guarantee you, it is really worth it. I really enjoy this kind of experience even if we lack of time and I want to share my experience in Yakimix Restaurant.

2

I thought that if you eat in Yakimix Restaurant you’ll just grill your own food and eat it, but I was wrong. There are also cooked foods there wherein you have lots of choices; from the appetizers to desserts. I also thought Yakimix serves only a Japanese food, but in my surprise they have also Korean and Chinese cuisine.

3

My first stop was on the Uncooked-food Area. This station was one of my favourite station because as you can see this are the foods that need to be grilled. You can get whatever you want. If you are health conscious, you can pick fish, vegetables, root crops, shrimp, crab stick and many more. In this station they also have beef and pork like hotdog, bacon, ham and many more. They also have a barbeque-like food which is a little bit spicy. Of course, they also have a plenty of seasonings, dips and sauces.

4

My second stop was on the Sushi and Maki Area. I said earlier that I’m into Japanese food and one of my favourite Japanese foods is Maki. I never thought that this Sushi and Maki station will have more choices. If you guys love Sushi and Maki you will love this station also.

5

My third stop was on the Fruits and Salad Area. In this station there are also lots of choices. I think mothers or parents will love this area because one of the varieties in this station is the vegetable salad, but also you can make your own vegetable salad. They also have fruit salad and macaroni salad. I like the taste of their macaroni salad and fruit salad.

6

My fourth stop was on the Cooked-food Area. I think this station is for customers who want to taste how delicious Yakimix Restaurant their cuisines are. As I observed, in this station they have more healthy varieties, which I think parents or health conscious customers may like. In this area they also have Yang Chow and Plain Rice.

8

My fifth stop was on the Korean and Chinese Cuisine. Actually, I don’t pick any of these because I’m not fond of eating Korean and Chinese cuisine, but if you guys are fond of eating one these cuisine I’m sure you will like this station.

My last stop is Desserts and Drinks Area. Because of my full stomach, I didn’t pick any of these. I totally missed the exciting part in Yakimix Restaurant and I regret eating a lot. Maybe after so many months, I will be back in this place and eat a lot from their dessert area. If you go here guys please don’t forget to drop by in this station and obviously their drinks are really delicious especially the Lemonade.

10

Even though we lack of time in eating here in Yakimix still, I can say that I’m really satisfied.  I really enjoy this kind of experience especially in grilling your own food. About the food, I love the Sushi and Maki area because I really love eating Sushi and Maki. And as I’ve said earlier that Yakimix is quite an expensive buffet restaurant, but it is really worth it.

If you want to go there during Lunch time or Dinner time be sure to come early so that you can taste all of the food that they have and you can enjoy it. There is a cut off during lunch time: it’s from 11am – 2:00pm (Weekdays) and 11am – 2:30pm (Weekends).

11

Here’s my picture last Sunday at Yakimix Trinoma. The way I look at the meat, it is really obvious that I really enjoy that experience. I hope you guys will try eating at Yakimix.

MOUTHWATERING LUNCH AT TONG YANG GRILL AND SHABU-SHABU!

My auntie always invites us to eat somewhere especially in a buffet restaurant. This buffet is one of my favourites because it has lots of choices just like the Yakimix Buffet Restaurant. They also have the same concept; you will also cook your own food. I want to share to you guys my experience in Tong Yang; Eat-all-you-can Restaurant! I’m sure, if you try here you will also enjoy!

Tong Yang is a Chinese Shabu Shabu (hotpot) and Barbecue Restaurant in one. Tong Yang has lots of choices from meat to fish and seafood and veggie; which everyone may like, especially those people who love to eat Fish and other Seafood.

As I’ve said earlier Tong Yang has lots of varieties, you can pick everything you want. Here are the uncooked dishes from meat to fresh seafood and veggies. If you love fresh seafood, of course this area will definitely satisfy you.

Next station is the fresh leaves and Japanese rolls (Maki). The fresh leaves and Japanese rolls are ready to pick. People who love eating maki will like this area. And if you are a vegetable lover, you will also love this section. And it can also put on your soup.

Tong Yang also has a cooked dish. If you want to taste their dish, they have it. Don’t forget to pick one in this area.

The last station is the desserts and drinks area. It wouldn’t be complete if you haven’t tried their desserts; of course it has lots of choices, such as cakes, fruits and many more. And about the drinks they also have lots of choices.

And here is the table where you will cook your uncooked foods; the shabu-shabu and grill area.

I really enjoyed eating in Tong Yang. Eating there is really worth it and of course the price is also quite expensive. The foods are really good. Tong Yang is open during Lunch and Dinner time. I’m not sure if there is a cut off during lunch time. If you want to know the price schedule you can see it below:

ASIAN FOOD TRIP AT THE BUFFET ASIA RESTOBAR!

Being a student, it is really hard to find time to relax because of the paper works and busy schedule. That’s why my friends and I always find time to have a short break from our paper works and busy schedules; we give ourselves a break like eating in a buffet restaurant.  They searched in different buffet restaurants and they found this buffet restaurant in West Ave., Quezon City, the Buffet Asia.

At first, I’m not the type of person that eats a lot. I’m just contented with small amount of food, that’s why I know to myself that I won’t enjoy eating in a buffet restaurant. As I’ve observed, people enjoy eating in a buffet restaurant because they can eat the food that they want. And because of my friends’ influence, I’ve enjoyed eating in a buffet restaurant. So here is my experience in Buffet Asia.

The first person who discovered Buffet Asia is one of my closest friends. He just invited us to eat there. Buffet Asia is a buffet restaurant that allows its customers to take out of their leftovers, and I think you guys may like it especially to those people who easily get bloated. I think they did that to be their advantage among other buffet restaurants, because some of the buffet restaurants around Manila and Quezon City do not allow their customers to have leftovers. And if it happens that their customers have leftovers, they are pressured to pay twice the amount that they’ll be paying. For only Php 399 you can eat what you want from their buffet table, including bottomless drinks.

The Buffet Asia offers Filipino, Japanese, Korean; Vietnamese, Chinese and Thai Cuisines and I think you guys will like it.

As I’ve said, Buffet Asia offers Filipino Cuisines. They have Sinigang, Bicol Express, Menudo, Kare Kare and Adobo Rice. When I was there, I was not able to taste their Bicol Express, Menudo and Adobo Rice, but I was able to taste their Kare-Kare instead. I like their Kare-Kare and I think it really tastes good.

Next is the Japanese Cuisine. They have different kinds of Sushi. I really like California Maki to the bones, that’s why I consider it as one of my favourite dishes among all the dishes on their buffet table. I was the only one who enjoyed eating Makis among our group, and my friends have the Dynamite instead.

They also have Korean Cuisine. We all know that Koreans are fond of eating Kimchi, so Buffet Asia wants its customers to experience what Kimchi tastes like (they also have Kimchi Rice). Moreover, Buffet Asia also has Vietnamese, Chinese and Thai Cuisines. They have Creamy Veggies for the Chinese Cuisine and Yellow Curry for the Vietnamese Cuisine. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to taste all of the food on their buffet table.

Lastly, Buffet Asia also offers desserts that obviously all of us will like. They have different varieties of desserts on their buffet table. They have salads, chocolates and some sugar-coated stuff there. I like most of their desserts. It tastes great!

Aside from being a buffet restaurant, Buffet Asia is also a RestoBar. Buffet Asia is the only buffet restaurant to have an Acoustic Live Band Entertainment that happens every Friday and Saturday from 6:00 pm onwards. Given the fact that Buffet Asia is also a RestoBar, it also serves alcoholic beverages to its customers.

I think that’s all for this week guys. Hope you guys could find time to drop by and taste the different cuisines in Buffet Asia RestoBar at a very reasonable price! You can eat all you want for only Php 399! Or maybe have some alcoholic beverages and listen to their acoustic live band guests every Friday and Saturday. It’s definitely a perfect place to chill with your friends! Until next Saturday! Have a good day!

DO SOMETHIN’ FISHY!

I am not a picky eater. In fact, my taste buds are really easy to please. I don’t know much about technicalities when it comes to food but nonetheless – allow me to share some of my thoughts whenever I dine somewhere new.

I’ve been to a number of places before which serves buffet, but I really haven’t tried such during midnight until I was invited by my friends to join them over for a midnight buffet in Somethin’ Fishy at Eastwood. The buffet is the restaurant’s promo from midnight to morning which serves Filipino dishes, breakfast meals and local desserts. I’ve tried eating on this restaurant before, but I haven’t really tried their buffet promo so when I was invited for this, I didn’t hesitate to join.

I arrived at my friend’s place at around 1AM. We took a jeepney from where Pure Gold used to be in Cubao (which is now an SM). The jeepney sign board said Rosario Pasig. You can also just ask around where the jeepney going to Libis is if you’re looking for directions. From Cubao, it is about 15 minutes to get to Eastwood City in Libis on a Monday mornight.

When we got to Somethin’ Fishy Eastwood, I immediately liked how it didn’t look like your normal boxy restaurant. It was very well lit; the decoration was very minimal with just pictures of fishes, and it also had French doors, and a staircase leading to the bathrooms in a mezzanine. The buffet area wasn’t the usual buffet table. At Somethin’ Fishy, it was sort of a long kitchen counter with kitchen staff behind the counter. I really loved how there was somebody cooking waffles and French toast and carving ham behind the counter. Somethin’ Fishy looked like a very elegant restaurant with a very high ceiling and big windows and a bar.

For me, Somethin’ Fishy’s Midnight to Morning Buffet is one of the cheapest buffets, because at the price of Php 159, you can have unlimited Waffles, Mini Pancakes, French Toasts, Sliced Bananas, Sliced Apples, Pandesal (yeast raised bread), Sliced Bread, Baked Ham, Fried Spring Rolls (fried lumpia), Fried Rice, Hotdogs, Spams, Plain Scrambled Eggs, Spanish Omelette, Tapa (marinated beef strips), Tocino (sweetened cured pork), Spanish Sardines, Sardines in Tomato Sauce, Fish Fingers, Sweet and Sour Pork, Siomai (dimsum), Stir Fried Noodles, Pancit, Palabok, Fried Milkfish (bangus), Adobong Manok (marinated chicken), Adobong Baboy (marinated pork), Tokwa’t Baboy (tofu and pork), Lugaw (congee), Champorado (chocolate/cacao rice porridge), Mami (noodle soup), Puto Bumbong (steamed glutinous rice), Bibingka (rice cake), Maja (coconut cake), Jello, Palitaw (sweet rice cake), Biko (rice cake) and Sliced Banana Fritters. I bet you didn’t expect that much! I wasn’t able to taste everything, but it was okay since there was just so much on the menu that it wasn’t humanly possible to try everything.

4

Plate Number 1 contains (I’m trying my best to guess their names, LOL!) Pansit Guisado, Longganisa (sweet, spicy, vigan), Bistek Tagalog, Tocino, Pork Adobo, Sweet Ham, Fish Fillet and Lumpiang Shanghai (spring rolls).

5

Plate Number 2 contains the breakfast essentials – Waffles, Pancakes and well, that dessert (that’s left from the kakanin table) called Biko or sweetened rice cake. They still have Palitaw (rice dumplings) but I did not bother to get any.

6

Plate Number 3 contains Omelet, Garlic Fried Rice, Sweet Ham and Stir Fried Tofu with Oyster Sauce.

Based on the empty spaces at the buffet table, I think we didn’t miss much. Too bad I didn’t get to try their pasta — I’m a big fan of pasta with lots and lots of meatballs. There’s also Pansit Palabok, but I’m not an advocate so I skipped it.

7

It was a decent breakfast, the choices were great and varied but none that really made a huge impression. I recommend Somethin’ Fishy’s breakfast buffet to those diners who are budget conscious and to those who aren’t really particular with the ‘ambiance’. But if you are, go find another restaurant.  This is not a place for romantic dates, but I think would be awesome for family celebrations or group hang outs. In fact, I was overhearing happy family chatter and huge group of friends just exchanging stories over a hearty meal. They’re the ones who are making the place fun.

I’m not gonna try their lunch or dinner buffets because when I checked the menu, they are mostly sea foods. I’m not a fan of sea foods, sorry. Haha!  But if you are, check ’em out and tell me what you think.

By the way, the service is OK. I did not encounter any rudeness, they were polite and accommodating. They refill your iced tea promptly and the restroom was fine too.

Thanks for reading! Love Love Love!

CHEAT DAY SATURDAY AT CABALEN!

Two weeks before September 11, 2013, I was thinking of a buffet restaurant where I can treat my friends for my eighteenth birthday. I ask suggestions from different people including my family, my classmates and my friends. One day, while I was strolling at the mall, I found Cabalen. I discovered that they offer full course meals composed of different Filipino dishes to choose from. I look up in the internet for feedbacks about this restaurant and found good comments about them so I decided to bring my friends there on my birthday.

Cabalen offers a wide range of Filipino-Asian dishes and is well known for their Capampangan style of cooking (Capampangan’s are famous for their sumptuous foods and delicacies because of their good taste and innate cooking talent) and an eat-all-you-can buffet for a very reasonable price. Cabalen buffet is available for only Php 298!

When we visited Cabalen Trinoma branch, we weren’t expecting that there would be a lot of people dining in there. There are group of students having a break from school, group of elder people catching up stories, families having their lunch, couples eating together, and groups of friends like us, celebrating special days.

From appetizers to desserts, every person can get to choose from over 50 dishes. Because my friends and I are certified food enthusiasts, we tried all of these dishes. We ate Tempuras for appetizers served with their sweet and spicy Tempura sauce.

For the main dish we enjoyed their famous Kare-Kare complemented by our favorite Bagoong Alamang (Fish Paste). When we talk about Filipino foods, who would forget our national food Lechon? Lechon is a well loved main dish during parties and other special occasions all over the Philippines. Their lechon is roasted with unique seasonings combined with their sweet and a bit spicy sarsa (sauce). Every chunk was juicy and yummy that it can compete with the best lechons in Cebu.

Other main dishes include sisig which we can choose from either pork or chicken. They also have Dinuguan, Adobong Kangkong, Bulalo, Pork Sinigang and a lot of native delicacies.

For the most awaited part of all, we end up this food trip trying all of their desserts. What we loved most in their dessert section is the mallows and stick-o dip in their chocolate fountain which satisfied our sweet tooth. On the other hand, it also includes healthy selection of fruits like banana, watermelon and pineapple. They also have special halo-halo where customers are the one who would choose their own toppings.

This kind of buffet is fit for people who have their own food preference, because in Cabalen they are the one who would choose their own food group as many as they can and as bizarre as they prefer.

After this experience, it is a no-wonder why Cabalen is one of the most-visited buffet restaurants in the Philippines for years. It has been a great experience for us to dine in there because it made us feel the authentic traditional home-cooked food. Cabalen is somewhere that one will surely come back to!

I guess that’s all for this week, folks! See you next Saturday (January 17, 2015) for another buffet story. Have a great day!

OOH LA LOVE DESSERTS!

It all started in the year 2013 when me and my best friends became buffet enthusiasts. We go to different buffet restaurants around Manila and Quezon City almost every week after our Saturday class. One day, while planning where our group will be going after our Saturday class, I randomly searched for an unlimited dessert restaurant since we’ve been always eating in buffet restaurants that offer full course meals. Surprisingly, I’ve found this restaurant located at Banawe Q.C. that offers unlimited desserts for only Php 199!

Love Desserts offers a wide variety of desserts from cakes to pastries to crepes to ice creams to Halo-Halo. Almost everything is there, ready to satisfy your cravings and ready to put some glucose in your veins!

At first, we thought that Love Desserts is an unpopular place until we noticed that the tables were never empty. As a matter of fact, some people have to wait outside for their turn, including us. We’ve already been there 10 times and I’ll tell you we’re only able to eat without having to wait outside only thrice.

Love Desserts allow their customers to stay only for a maximum of 2 hours. Make sense, since the place could only fit about 20-30 persons and you’ll never really need more than 2 hours until the sugar gets in your head and kick you out.

There are two main stations inside Love Desserts; the first station was filled with different pastries and desserts as well as the “umay” relievers while the second station had the crepe, ice cream, Halo-Halo and the drinks station (includes Milk Tea with some black pearls which you can place on your drink and Iced tea).

Processed with VSCOcam with hb2 preset

1st Stop: Cookies, Brownies, Egg Pie, Tuna and Chicken Empanada (which you may request to be reheated by the waiters), Champorado (Chocolate Rice Porridge), and other pastries.

They also offer Lugaw (Rice Porridge) as a substitute to their Champorado, but it’s very seldom.

We liked most of the pastries from the cookies to brownies to tuna and chicken empanada to the champorado. All of the pastries were tasteful except for the egg pie. It’s bland and doesn’t taste like an egg pie at all. It seems that they’ve used only 2 eggs in making the whole pie to lower their cost, but it’s okay since they still offer a lot more dessert.

2nd Stop: Cakes of different flavors!

Love Desserts offers around 4-6 different flavors of cake per day. They usually display 2 different flavors of cakes and then another two different flavors of cakes if the first two set of cakes are already done.

We also liked their cakes just like the other pastries, but the only drawback to these cakes is its texture. Again, it seems that they’ve used few eggs to make the whole cake. The cakes easily turn into grains when you try to slice a small part of it. But what do we expect? We only pay just Php 199 for an unlimited dessert experience. Well, that’s just a drawback that we saw, but the cakes were still presentable and tasteful anyway.

3rd Stop: Shot Glass Desserts!

These shot glass desserts were tasteful as well and also comes with different flavors.

4th Stop: The “umay” relievers’ station! Nachos, Singkamas (Turnips) with Bagoong (Fish Paste), Dynamite, Macaroni and Fruit Salad, and Coffee Machine (which you may request to be prepared by the waiters).

They also offer Mangoes instead of Turnips, but if you are lucky, you could see both Mangoes and Turnips on their menu. And by the way, that seldom happens.

The macaroni and fruit salad tastes great, as well as the dynamite and the nachos. Even though they used fried lumpia wrappers instead of corn made nacho chips, the nachos still tastes great and we thought that it is a creative way of cutting cost.

Processed with VSCOcam with hb2 preset

5th Stop: The Crepe station!

They have mangoes, bananas, peaches, blueberries, and strawberries. They also have syrup such as chocolate, strawberry, toffee and a chocolate spread to go along with it. The crepe as like with any other is best serve while hot.

8

6th Stop: The Ice Cream Station!

Just beside the crepe station is their ice cream station where they serve Big Scoop Ice Cream with different toppings of your choice such as choco wafer sticks, gummies, sprinkles, chocolate chips, big and small marshmallows and some colorful rainbow nips.

Last Stop: The Halo-Halo and the Iced Tea and Milk Tea Station!

You know that you’re buying a great deal when the least you or you don’t expect to be there is actually there! Usually in many buffet restaurants, drinks are not inclusive of what you regularly pay. You will surely love Love Desserts for their unlimited iced tea and milk tea.

✡✡✡

To top it all, we’re all satisfied with our experience in Love Desserts. It was something unique and new to try though there were hits and misses too. But for the given rate of Php 199, we couldn’t ask for more. It was definitely worth it!

Treat yourself some heaven in Love Desserts. For just Php 199 you will experience joy and happiness with sweets in front of you!

By the way, according to one of their posts in Facebook they will open a second branch in Fairview Q.C. this month.

That’s all for this week, folks! Don’t forget to tune in next Saturday (January 10, 2015) as we evaluate another buffet restaurant. Have a great day ahead!
